IPOB: We Didn’t Burn any Mosque in Enugu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied allegations that it was responsible for the burning of a mosque in Enugu State on Monday.

The group, speaking through its media and publicity secretary, Mr Emma Powerful, in a press release sent to THISDAY in Awka, disassociated its members from the alleged arson and any other news of attack or vandalism on Muslims and their places of worship.

It assured the public of its non-violent stand, calling on Muslims and northerners living in parts of Igbo land not to express fear of attack, but to go about their worship peacefully.

Powerful said: “IPOB is not unaware of the desperation of the Nigerian army of occupation to cause mayhem and blame it on IPOB as a way of instigating counter violence against Southerners in the North.

“The aim of this army of occupation led by exclusively Hausa Fulani officers is to distract our focus and firm resolve to force a peaceful referendum within the law. No amount of violence visited on our family members will dissuade us from this historic and legitimate course.”
